The question has been popped and you’ve agreed to spend the rest of your life with your favorite person — what now? After securing your date at one of a Wedgewood Weddings venue, the next big step in wedding planning is making sure all of your closest family and friends mark their calendars for your big day with the all-important save the date.
While beneficial for local guests, who will need time to request days off work and block out their calendar, save the dates are especially important when inviting out-of-town guests, who will need time to find and book travel accommodations and hotel rooms. For destination weddings, save the dates are not only a courtesy but a necessity for guest attendance, and should be sent out a month or two earlier than typical save the dates.
Considering all of the planning you, your fiancé and your Wedgewood Weddings planner have in store to create the wedding of your dreams, you’ll want your closest family and friends to be able to be there to enjoy it — so save the dates are definitely not a part of the wedding budget to skimp on!

While the above covers all the save the date basics, you might still have a few questions. Here we'll cover how save the dates work and how you can personalize yours in more detail.
As a newly engaged couple, we understand how eager you are to share the news of your upcoming nuptials with your friends and family. A great way to do so is to send out save-the-date cards. They can formally announce the next stage of your relationship and set the tone for your upcoming celebration.
You and your beloved are truly special, so your wedding should be extraordinary! Express your unique personalities in your save-the-date by considering different paper weights, finishes, magnets, and digital announcements. Alternatively, you can put a modern spin on the traditional save-the-date with phrases such as "We're getting married" or "We're tying the knot," or just a simple "Save Our Date." Incorporate a photo from your engagement session to add a special touch.
You'll be ready to send your wedding save the date cards as soon as you've locked in your venue and date. (If you want to send something sooner that would be an 'engagement announcement ' which you friends and family will also cherish!) Your wedding save-the-dates are a great way to give your loved ones plenty of notice of the event. Keep in mind, though, that it’s best to only send out save-the-dates to the guests you’ll be inviting. Since an RSVP isn’t typically included with the save-the-date, it’s important to also ensure your guests receive a wedding invitation in due time.
When crafting your save the date, you'll only need to include the date and your names. For heterosexual couples, the bride's name is typically listed first followed by the groom's name. However, same-sex couples are encouraged to list their names alphabetically. You can opt to use nicknames, full names, or first and middle/last names - whatever you choose, you want your guests to recognize who the save the date is from. To make your save the date cards truly special, consider adding a photo of the both of you! A photo-based template is an excellent way to flaunt your engagement pictures (or any other photos of yourselves).
Most save the date recipients will already understand that details will be provided closer to the wedding date but, if space and inclination allows, you can always add a link to your wedding website. A wedding website usually evolves as your finalize your wedding plans, so your guests will know to return to the site as your date gets closer.
