Wedding elements are ideally an expression of your personality, and with as much personality as two individuals can have, newlyweds Jenny and Dave Gerber took the cake—literally! A masterful creation by our very own vendor, It’s All About the Cake, was a central conversation piece at their wedding. Jenny and Dave had two individual weddings cakes made: a sweet, pristine butter cream castle for her…and a mean, rich, chocolate machine in the shape of a tire for him. As if the opposing looks weren’t enough, Dave’s chocolate wheel seemed to spray a muddy chocolate mess all over Jenny’s genteel princess tiers.

As people work more and more to break away from the traditional Queen Victoria white wedding, we see adaptations by different couples trying for a more avant-garde approach. The new trend of cakes matched to your personality can add extra fun to your event. Sometimes the cakes come in one well-executed mashup, some with independent hemispheres, some broken up tier by tier and others, like the Gerbers’ featured cake, are entirely separate cakes. The cakes serve as a focal point at the receptions, made sometimes to complement, and other times to serve as satirical representations, of the romance.
And couples don’t limit themselves to a cake platform—we’ve seen cupcakes, cake pops and an array of other decadent wedding treats join in on the fun.
